The Kaduceus Sterile Products and Aseptic Technique (SPAT) is a 40-hour course, which consists of a mini curriculum that includes hands-on lessons, virtual labs, along with industry expertise needed for teachers to guide their students toward successful certificate of completion. This certificate prepares a student to work as a Pharmacy Technician in a pharmacy that prepares sterile IV drugs. Students apply infection control principles and practice with needles and syringes to learn the techniques for properly admixing sterile IV drugs, along with how to properly handwash, gown and glove. Students apply basic pre-algebra level mathematics skills to calculate drug doses, apply calculation formulas, and convert between different systems of measurement. Students must successfully pass summative assessments for mastery of both knowledge and hands-on skills during a proctored SPAT testing day at the conclusion of curriculum delivery. Kaduceus offers in-person and virtual proctoring.
